We have always been a camp for teens who are passionate about making the world a better place. As part of this emphasis on social justice, Odyssey Teen Camp creates the space for teenagers to think about, discuss, and debate subjects not often talked about in school and everyday life. Programs may include:
Discussion Groups
We create the space for teenagers to think about, discuss, and debate subjects not often talked about in school and everyday life. Our group discussions promote imagination, authority questioning, and critical thinking. We encourage teens to ask how we can all work towards a more equitable world
Women You Didn’t Know in History
Their names aren’t household words, but without their contributions, the world as we know it would not be, well, the world as we know it. Meet the women whose names may have been overlooked by history but whose deeds are sure to inspire you.
Fashion, Politics, Identity & Style
What’s political about the way you dress? Through group discussions, movies, articles, and podcast clips, this class takes a magnifying glass to the ways political resistance is expressed through personal style. Learn the answers to questions such as, “How is the way you present yourself linked to gender identity, race, class, and politics?” “How are these things connected in your own life, in the lives of celebrities, and people around you?” “How can we can use personal fashion to disrupt the white supremacist, capitalist, hetero-patriarchy?”
Protesting Activities
Teens make protest signs about issues they are passionate about and march through the camp, or sit together and talk about the myriad of issues troubling the world today.
Loving Your Trans Body
Body image issues can be a struggle for many teens, but the challenge for trans teens is even greater. Learn how to overcome body image dissatisfaction and how to support trans teens who are dealing with such issues.
