As a camp nurse at OTC, you will join a team of passionate, creative people committed to providing respectful, compassionate care for all campers, including transgender, non-conforming, and neurodivergent teens. Compensation for this position is $1500 per week from late June to late July. Room and board are provided.
Strong candidates will be self-initiating and collaborate skillfully as part of a small healthcare team and a large all-camp team, including under stress. Nurses successful in this role balance a powerful work ethic and commitment to Odyssey Teen Camp’s mission with adaptability, playfulness, and a sense of humor. A passion for providing respectful, compassionate care for trans/gender non-conforming and neurodivergent teens is highly valued. OTC offers a fun, rewarding, and refreshing nursing experience. Compensation is $1500/week, with housing and meals provided.
Nurse Responsibilities:
- Assess camper injury and illness
- Independently apply nursing judgment and mindfully adhere to provider’s orders in delivering interventions
- Determine when emergency care or evaluation by an Advanced Practitioner is indicated
- Administer scheduled and PRN medications
- Document all assessments, interventions, medications administered, communication with parents/guardians, and disposal of medical/biological waste accurately and completely
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of Health Hut and equipment
- Review and organize camper health forms and records
- Provide on-call overnight coverage on a rotational basis
- Train camp counselors in first-aid, infection control, head injury response, and allergy awareness
- Collaborate with the Health Hut team, Directorship Team, Wellness team, camp counselors, and the local Board of Health.
- Follow instructions, incorporate feedback, voice concerns, and delegate tasks as appropriate
- Ensure that all Odyssey Teen Camp protocols, local and state guidelines for healthcare provision and camp management, and evidence-based best practices are upheld at all times
- Adhere to HIPPA standards
- Create a positive and inclusive medical environment for campers and staff by respecting pronouns and identities
- Assist in maintaining a camp atmosphere that is comfortable, playful, and supportive for all campers and staff
Nurse requirements:
- Current Massachusetts nursing license (RN or LPN) or ability to obtain before start of employment
- Pediatric nursing experience preferred but not required
- Knowledge of state guidelines for nursing practice and camp management or capacity to familiarize
- Ability to pass a background check, complete a physical exam, and provide proof of immunizations
- Physical ability to navigate uneven terrain in an outdoor environment
